The U.S. Postal Service’s attempt to divert attention from its privatization scheme by changing the program’s name isn’t stopping the union movement’s mobilization against the plan or the boycott of Staples. Tomorrow, thousands of members of the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) and allies will rally outside a Chicago Staples store.
Says APWU President Mark Dimondstein:
About a week ago, the USPS and Staples attempted to derail the boycott. They announced the pilot program was over but admitted that Staples clerks would continue to do the work of uniformed postal workers under a program with a different name. We’ve got news for them: our campaign to stand up for living-wage jobs and quality service for our customers isn’t over until we say it’s over.

The action begins at 3:30 CDT at the Staples store in the Chicago Loop at 111 N. Wabash and Washington. APWU members in Chicago for their convention will be joined by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, members of the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and other union and community allies.
