On Monday July 21, 2014 the Indiana State AFL-CIO hosted their first-ever fundraising dinner to support our member education program. Featuring National AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka along with Illinois State AFL-CIO President Michael Carrigan, the event was held in Northwest Indiana at the United Steelworkers Local 6787 banquet facility in Chesterton with all proceeds going towards implementing our member education program in Indiana.
The upcoming election is critical. We must secure some victories to stop the attacks and to begin to build towards a positive, progressive agenda for working families in Indiana – and this is how we start.
Working families have been taking it on the chin for too long in Indiana. In recent years, those in power have rammed through the so-called "right-to-work" law, limited collective bargaining and have fought to reduce our wages and benefits, eliminate needed workplace safety standards and make it more difficult to form a union just to name a few.
In 2014, with your help, Hoosier working families can put an end to these needless attacks.
At the Indiana State AFL-CIO, along with our affiliates and 14 Central Labor Councils, we have developed a comprehensive and strategic political program for the 2014 election that will ensure we put more worker-friendly candidates into office.
